Local tech company CostPlus Inc. is optimistic that the Philippines may further push investments for scalable clean energy solutions after joining the inaugural Battery Show Asia and Mobility Tech Expo in Hong Kong last week.

The company said in a statement on Tuesday that it showcased its Kidlat electric vehicle (EV) system that is designed to power underserved communities.

CostPlus said that so far, the Kidlat EV system has already powered over 27,000 homes, schools, and community hubs in the Philippines.

Anand Mahtani, CostPlus founder and president, said it’s not just about electricity but also about enabling education, internet, clean water and sustainable cooking in communities that need it most.

“We’re proving that Filipino innovation can improve lives, not just at home but across the globe,” Mahtani said, adding that they are scaling up globally to help 800 million people still without reliable energy.

CostPlus said it was also joined by representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) during the expo in Hong Kong.

Atty. Roberto Mabalot Jr., DTI Hong Kong Vice Consul for Commercial, cited the Philippine government’s push to strengthen trade and technology ties in the region.

Mabalot expressed optimism that such effort will also help boost the economy through increased investments and job opportunities for Filipinos.

The participation of a Filipino company in the expo creates new opportunities for local companies to expand their reach and grow an exporter base, DTI added.

Based on data from its website, CostPlus’ EV system products currently include various models of vehicles, batteries, cold storage, generator sets, solar panels and wind turbines.

Meanwhile, based on data from the Department of Energy (DOE), as of end-2024, the total number of EVs in the country is at 24,286 or 0.2 percent of the total 14,619,753 vehicles in the Philippines.
